Abstract

A paint, varnish or like liquid applicator comprises a handle 22 having a tube 21 which is adapted to be connected to a pressurized liquid supply, e.g. a tank 1, a manually operable spring-loaded plunger valve 23 for controlling the flow of liquid through the handle 22, paint rollers 31, 32 and supports for them, and a manifold 33 external of and parallel to the rollers 31, 32, the manifold 33 being connected to the output of the valve 23, e.g. by a rigid tube 30, and having jets 34 to deliver liquid on to the rollers 31, 32. The applicator operates as follows, assuming the valve 23 is open: an arm 10 having a screw 7 is rotated to lower a nut 8 against a spring 6, rotation of the nut 8 in a tube 5 being prevented by a key 9 engaging a slot in the nut 8. The spring 6 is moved downwardly to force down a neoprene piston 13 <PICT:0793449/III/1> <PICT:0793449/III/2> carried by a rod 12 which slides freely in the screw 7. Liquid is thus forced through a strainer 20 in the tank 1 and by flexible tube 21, valve 23 and tube 30 to the manifold 33. The arm 10 is in the form of a yoke and is pivoted at 18 to an arm secured to the screw 7, whereby the arm 7 may be folded against the tank 1. The rollers 31, 32 are adjustably mounted between yokes 35, 36 to accommodate roller coverings of different thicknesses, e.g. plush or lambs' wool. The rollers 31, 32 are mounted to swivel as a unit about the manifold 33 which carries the yokes 35, 36.
