Abstract

791,078. Piston packing. DEWRANCE & CO., Ltd. June 15, 1955 [June 16, 1954], No. 17708/54. Class 122 (1). [Also in Group XXIX] A piston 41 formed integrally with a valve closure member (see Group XXIX) and slidable in a stainless-steel sleeve 35 is packed by a pair of rubber sealing rings 57 separated by a metal ring 59 and having annular grooves 58 engaged by metal spreader rings 55. Each spreader ring has pressure equalizing passages consisting of ports 61 communicating with a continuous groove 60 and with the corresponding groove 58. The assembly is held in place by a metal junk ring 63 locked by a grub-screw 64 and engaging the left-hand spreader ring through a metal washer 62. Specifications 707,228 and 707,290, [both in Group XXII], are referred to.
