Abstract
1,001,121. Piston packing. GOETZWERKE FRIEDRICH GOETZE A.G. April 3, 1962 [April 7, 1961], No. 12774/62. Heading F2T. In a piston packing housed in a groove in the piston 1 and comprising either a split ring having an axially stepped joint 3, 4, Fig. 2, or a pair of superimposed split rings 13, 14, Fig. 4, arranged to break joint, the gap 5, 15 on the high pressure side is uncovered radially whilst the gap 6, 16 on the other side is closed radially from the inner side of the ring by sealing means, e.g. insert 7, Fig. 1, urged to close the gap by pressure fluid that enters the piston groove through the first gap 5, 15. As shown in Fig. 1, the gap and insert are wedge-shaped. In a modification, Fig. 6, the gap is closed radially by a ring 23 located in a recess in the ring 22. In a further modification, Fig. 9, the sealing means is a wavy spring 29 having a plain portion at the gap 21.
