Abstract
790,181. Gas filters. MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES CO. May 8, 1956, No. 14246/56. Class 8(2). A gas filter comprises a strip of heat resisting fibrous material 1, Fig. 2, e.g., glass or asbestos folded backwards and forwards over corrugated spacing elements 2 the sides of which extend along the sides of the folds and both sets of sides are embedded in a dried slurry 4 which holds the spacers and the folded filter strip together in sealing engagement. As shown in Fig. 4, the sides of the spacers are folded in box-form and have apertures 7 in the outer faces of the boxes 6 through which wet slurry is drawn by suction. The two ends 3 of the strip 1 are embedded in a slurry flange 9 and the end folds are coated with slurry thus forming an open-ended filter unit suitable for use with hot gases. The slurry comprises a suspension of glass or asbestos fibres in water.
