735,842. Gas filters. GENERAL MOTORS, Ltd. Nov. 14, 1953, No. 31632/53. Class 8(2). In a gas filter housing an element 9, Fig. 1, formed by a plurality of double-walled longitudinal folds 42, Fig. 2, radiating from a central perforated tube 13, the outer edge of at least one fold 42 is bifurcated to provide two double-walled branch folds 44. The filter medium 40 comprises resin impregnated paper having corrugations to effect spacing of adjacent walls of the folds, and the ends 45, 46 are adhesively sealed to flanged annular plates 10, 11 and are clamped between annular felt pads 14, 15 and casing end plates 4, 6 by a bolt 3. In a modification alternate folds are bifurcated. The recesses between branch folds may vary in radial depth and may be themselves bifurcated and the tertiary branches so formed may be inclined at different angles to the radius.
