Abstract

790,112. Toggle presses. SANDT AKT.-GES., J. May 5, 1954 [May 5, 1953 ; March 19, 1954], No. 13109/54. Class 87(2). [Also in Groups XVI and XXIX] A toggle press comprises a short lever 5 pivotally connected at its ends to an abutment 1 and a long lever 6 which is pivotally connected at its ends to a ram 9 and a driving mechanism C. which may comprise a threaded spindle 46 driven through a magnetic clutch 47 by a motor 48. Other forms of presses and of driving mechanism, e.g., electrically controlled hydraulic circuits, are described. As shown in Fig. 11, an arm 11 carrying the ram is raised and lowered by hypaulic pistons 41, 42 acting on the toggle linkage 5, 6, 38. The throw of the ram is adjusted by rotating an internally screwthreaded hub 31. The press is controlled by a lever 54 which operates a valve 111 through solenoids 108, 109 to cause pressure fluid to act on either the piston 41 or 42. A valve 116 opens if the pressure in the system esceeds a predetermined value. In a modified driving mechanism, Fig. 10, the stroke of the press is adjusted by stops 96, 97. Depression of a handle 67 causes a slide valve 84 to move a slide valve 83 to such a position that fluid is driven by the pump 85 to move the piston 42.
