Abstract

926,072. Work-holders. SPENCER FRANKLIN Ltd. Feb. 6, 1962 [June 5, 1961], No. 20234/61. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXIX] A work-holding device comprises an angularly-adjustable arm 32 clamped by fluidpressure means comprising a large diameter piston 39 subjected to a low-operating pressure and a small diameter plunger 46 on the piston extending into a high-pressure cylinder 49 containing hydraulic fluid. The pressure in the cylinder 49 is initially adjusted by rotating a threaded member 47. The piston 39 may work against a return spring. Air to the piston 39 may be controlled by a footoperated valve. In a modification, the plunger 46, Fig. 2, moves in a passage 17 of the same diameter. The cam-operating linkage of Specification 631,690 may be incorporated in the device.
