Abstract

787,140. Valves. LADISH CO. Aug. 29, 1955, No. 24744/55. Class 135. Within the valve body 10, Fig. 2, is an unbalanced elliptical closure member 13, Fig. 5, which is of parallelogram section (Fig. 2) in a plane through its major axis and is of rectangular section (Fig. 3) in a plane through its minor axis. A periphery 14, Fig. 3, of the member 13, which lies in a plane whose axis passes through the centre of the member and is in a plane normal to this axis, the latter being disposed at an angle to the closure member 13, is formed with an annular groove 15 that accommodates a resilient sealing ring 16 of circular section. A boss 18, Figs. 3 and 5, on the member 13 consists of a pair of converging side walls 19, normal to a face 17 of the member 13, and a wall 20 spaced from and parallel to this face, the boss being parallel with the minor axis and offset therefrom. The body 10, Fig. 3, is provided with an offset bearing 12 in which a stem 21 is rotatably mounted, the inner end of the latter being suitably shaped to slide into the boss 18; the stem 21 incorporates a sealing ring 26 and a U-shaped clip 29 to prevent axial movement of the stem. The valve is dismantled by removing the clip 29 and withdrawing the stem 21 from the boss 18 and bearing 12 whereupon the closure member 13 can be lifted from the body 10.
