Abstract
786,607. Gas-blast switches. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE. Jan. 27, 1956 [Jan. 29, 1955], No. 2713/56. Class 38 (5). In a gas-blast switch in which contacts 1, 2 are opened by pressure gas against the bias of a spring 16, electrodynamic forces produced by the circuit current in a conductor loop 9 control the opening of an exhaust valve 8. In the " twobreak " arrangement shown, the conductor loop is formed by rigid members 12 and flexible elements 13, the members 12 being carried by pivoted links 10, 15. The current flowing in the loop causes the members 12 to repel each other and open the valves 8 (one shown) against the bias of springs 17 an amount dependent on the magnitude of the current to be interrupted. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 2 (not shown), the members 12 release latches to permit the full opening of the exhaust valves by the blast gas, this action occurring when the circuit current to be interrupted has reached a given amount. Figs. 4 to 8 (not shown) illustrate various arrangements in which multi-turn conductor loops are used.
