Abstract

750,829. Gas-blast circuit breakers. AKT.-GES. BROWN BOVERI & CIE: Jan. 25, 1954 [Jan. 24, 1953], No. 2186/54. Class 38(5) In a switching device comprising a. power-interrupting circuit-breaker b inseries with a voltage isolation switch s, each of which has at least one gas-operated, self-closing nozzle contact, the gas for the switch and breaker operation is supplied through separate channels. Circuit-- breaker b and switch s have movable nozzle contacts f2, f12 and stationary contacts f1, f11, respectively, and are mounted On a gas container a by gas-conducting insulators d, e. On operation of the device, the electro-pneumatic valve g opens valve h, the gas then opening contacts f1, f2. and extinguishing the arc, valves h closing after a set time. Shortly before this, control valve i operates and allows the switch contacts f12, f11 to open, valve k, opening for a short time and then being closed by the gas pressure which is maintained while the switch is open. When the switch is closed the gas discharges through valve 'i. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) two breaks are provided for the breaker and switch and resistances are shunted across the former. In yet another embodiment (Fig. 3) the isolator s1, s2 is kept constantly under gas pressure by means of gas-conducting insulator e31, self-closing valves k11, k12 and control valve i12, i11 being provided.
