Abstract

784,481. Combustion chambers. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. Feb. 20, 1956 [Feb. 19, 1955], No. 5171/56. Class 7(3) An approximately spherical precombustion chamber 4 is provided, immediately above the passage 5 leading to the cylinder with a part-spherical deflector element 8 mounted on a pin 7 above which is positioned an incandescent filament 10 controlled by a delay action switch, which, after being closed at starting, opens automatically after a predetermined period. The end of the filament 10 forms a loop 12 in the path of the fuel jet 16, part of which strikes the filament and is vaporized whilst the remainder strikes the deflector 8 and is reflected back towards the filament. The delay-action switch may be provided with means for setting a longer or shorter period of incandenscence depending upon the outside temperature. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 714,126 and 717,867.
