Abstract

1364877 Fuel injector nozzles F F S A 27 Oct 1971 [16 Nov 1970] 50031/71 Heading F1B I. C. engine fuel injector comprises a body 1 having holes 4, 4a, 5, 5a for discharging fuel into the combustion chamber, at least one of the holes being shorter in length than the remainder such that when the injector is installed in an engine, during operation of the engine at idling speed, the majority of the injected fuel is emitted by the hole which is shorter in length. The parts 6 and 6a of the nozzle may be machined away to reduce the length of the holes 4 and 4a. Alternatively, or in addition, the diameter of some of the holes may be greater than the diameter of the other holes. During idling and low-power operation of the engine the majority of the fuel is emitted through the holes 5 and 5a, in jets which do not reach the chamber walls, in order to minimize the production of pollutants in the exhaust gases. Under full load operation fuel is emitted from all the holes, the jets from the holes 4 and 4a striking the combustion chamber walls.
