Abstract
907,151. Forging presses. MASCHINENFABRIK SACK G.m.b.H. Nov. 23, 1959 [Nov. 28, 1958], No. 39693/59. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXIX] An hydraulic forging press comprises two chain link shaped members 1, 2 forming two parallel pairs of rectangular section columns slidable longitudinally relatively to a crosshead 16 which carries one platen or die 18 whilst the other platen or die 17 is carried by a crossbeam 7 extending between two adjacent ends of the members 1, 2, one pair of columns 2, Fig. 3, being guided on the cross-head 16 by their two opposite faces and also by an adjacent face of each column whilst the other pair of columns 1 are guided only by their two opposite faces. The columns 2 are guided by replaceable guide bars 3, 5, 6 and the columns 1 by replaceable guide bars 4. This allows for expansion due to heat from the workpiece. Cross-head 16 is fixed and houses a pair of hydraulic cylinders 14, 15 whose respective rams 12, 13 actuate the sliding link members 1, 2 and hence the upper die 17. A third ram may be placed at the centre of the cross-head 16. To compensate for eccentric loading such as P 1 or P 4 an hydraulic synchronizing mechanism may be used which adjusts the loads P 2 , P 3 acting in the rams 12, 13 and thus reduces bending stresses in the columns.
