Abstract

764,197. Wire strainers. P.S.C. EQUIPMENT, Ltd. Oct. 13, 1954, No. 29492/54. Class 45. [Also in Groups X and XXX] A hydraulic jack, Fig. 1 for stressing the wire 54 of a prestressed concrete structure comprises a cylinder 1, 3 and a spring-loaded piston 5, 7, 9 having a guide tube 19 and anchoring means 35 for the wire. The housing 28, 29, 30 of a screwthreaded ram 21 is secured to the jack by screws 32. The ram is axially moved by a tommy bar inserted through holes in a nut 23 and is held against rotation by co-operating flats formed on the ram and a member 30a. The ram urges the collets 36 of a chuck 37 mounted in the concrete into contact with the wire whilst the piston tensions the wire. In a modification, Fig. 4, the ram unit is replaced by a housing 38 having a slide 43 which is urged into contact with the collets by a drift inserted in the slot 45.
