779,451. Valves. SCHMITZ, F., and SCHULTEMATTLER, H., [trading as HOCHDRUCK - DICHTUNGS - FABRIK SCHMITZ & SCHULTE]. Dec. 16, 1952 [May 14, 1952], No. 31870/52. Class 135. In a valve having a diaphragm 2 clamped between the valve body 1 and its cover 3 in lieu of a stuffing-box, the diaphragm is formed with a hollow frusto-pyramidal rubber extension 4 whose side and bottom faces are engageable with the valve body on rotation of a screwthreaded spindle 5 which carries a similarly shaped, frusto-pyramidal metal core assembly. The core assembly comprises an inner part 6 in which the spindle rotates and a transversely split outer shell 7 urged by the part 6 on further rotation of the spindle to expand the extension 4. A spring 9 urges the part 6 upwardly.
