Abstract
773,789. Straightening damaged conveyer flight bars. WILD & CO., Ltd., A. G. Dec. 1, 1954 [Dec. 8, 1953], No. 34072/53. Class 83 (4). [Also in Groups XXIX and XXX] The " flight " bars, which maintain two chains on a coal conveyer at their correct distance apart, are straightened by an hydraulic jack without removing them from the conveyer. The jack has legs which fit over bolt heads on an adjacent bar, thereby giving suitable anchorage to the jack. The plunger of a pump operating the jack opens valves when at one extreme end of its stroke to lower the jack. Movement of a handle 21 reciprocates a plunger 7 of the pump 3 mounted on the end of the jack comprising a tubular ram 2 in a cylinder 1. Oil is drawn through a valve 14 from a pipe 12 extending into the ram and is forced through a valve 17 to extend the ram. To lower the ram, the handle 21 is moved to an inoperative position in which a spring-loaded catch 26 engages a bracket 28 and the plunger engages a spigot 33 and also a tubular member 35 with a lip 36, thereby opening the valves 14, 17 so that the oil returns to the reservoir. The ram forms a reservoir, but in a modification a separate reservoir is provided. In a further modification, the oil is contained in a bellows of natural or synthetic rubber or of a synthetic plastic inside the ram. The legs are pivoted on the jack and are held by spring clips against the jack when not in use. The stoke of the jack is governed by the amount of oil in the reservoir which is designed to prevent overfilling.
