Abstract
771,326. Fuel-injection pumps. EVANS, A. F., HOPKINS, C. H., [Legal Representative of HOPKINS, W. S. (deceased)]. June 23. 1955 [Sept. 24, 1954; Nov. 30, 1954], Nos. 27654/54 and 34677/54. Class 102(1) In a fuel-injection pump, the plunger L has an axial bore M that communicates with a transverse port E that co-operates with a sleeve D to control the inlet to a rigid chamber C. On the upward stroke, the port E is closed and fuel in the chamber C is compressed until the plunger is moving at high speed and a transverse port O is opened to the delivery X causing a preliminary injection after which the main injection is delivered by the plunger until a spill port Q is opened by passing through an adjustable sleeve H. The delivery X is fitted with a spring-loaded valve AA and an edge filter BB. An air bleed A is provided in chamber C.
