Classes 69(ii) and 135 The effective delivery of a hydraulic pump 18 supplying liquid past a pressurizing valve 22 is varied by a servomotor 11 into both ends of which liquid is delivered by the pump through a branch line 20 upstream of the pressurizing valve and past restrictions 24, each end of the servomotor being provided also with a restricted outlet 30, 31 into a common exhaust line 27 leading either to the suction side of the pump or to the pump delivery line downstream of valve 22, and the effective area of outlet 31 is varied by a poppet, needle, or hinged plate valve 28. As shown, the servomotor acts through a cam 19 and tappet 17 to vary the stroke of the plunger 18 of a fuel delivery pump, but if the pump is of the fixed-delivery type, the servomotor actuates directly a needle valve controlling a spill from downstream of the pressurizing valve back to the pump inlet. Valve 28 may be actuated manually, by a further servomotor, by a temperature sensitive device, or by a capsule 32 subject to an engine condition, e.g. pressure. An over-ride valve subject to over-speeding of the engine may be provided in parallel with valve 28.
