Abstract

771,123. Laminated materials. SEMTEX, Ltd. June 10, 1955 [June 29, 1954], No. 18989/54. Class 140. A laminated material suitable for a floor covering is made by hot-pressing on to a backing sheet consisting of a vinyl resin composition containing a filler and a plasticizer, a top layer consisting of sections of coloured vinyl resin sheeting containing a filler and plasticizer assembled edge to edge to form a pattern showing differences in colour between constituent sections. The top layer sections, which may be differently coloured or differently oriented marbled sections, may be joined at their edges before, or during union with the backing sheet. The vinyl resin may be polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate or vinylidene chloride. The plasticizer may be tricresyl phosphate and the filler may be whiting, powdered limestone, asbestos fibre, sawdust, cork flour, nut-shell flour, shredded wood fibres, granite dust, slate dust, barytes, talc, china clay, or silica flour. Blown vegetable oils, naphthalene-formaldehyde resin, or coumarone resin may be added. Colouring pigments specified are basic lead carbonate, titanium dioxide, yellow and red iron oxides. The sections may be squares, rectangles, or hexagons. Specification 745,149, [Group IV (a)], is referred to.
