Abstract

688,460. Compound sheet materials. CONGOLEUM-NAIRN, Inc. Nov. 10, 1948. No. 7392/52. Divided out of 688,373. Drawings to Specification. Class 140. A flexible, laminated floor or wall covering is made by adherently attaching to a flexible fibrous supporting sheet a flexible patterned sheet consisting of differently coloured pieces of plasticised vinyl resin with a high filler content welded together at their edges. The resins, plasticisers, fillers, and the proportions in which they are employed may be as described in Specification 688,373. The patterned sheet is secured to the supporting sheet, which may be flooring felt, burlap, or cotton duck, and may be saturated with bitumen, by means of a bituminous adhesive, or by heat and pressure which may partly or entirely embed a woven fabric support in the patterned sheet. The difference in colour of adjacent pieces of vinyl resin may result from differences of a striated or grained effect.
