Abstract

A floor covering comprises a sheeted plastic mass of a binder, a filler and a pigment, the binder comprising a copolymer of vinyliacetate and a comonomer which acts to plasticize internally the copolymer, the ratio of acetate to comonomer ranging from 90 : 10 to 50 : 50. Specified comonomers are the butyl, amyl, octyl and lauryl maleates and fumarates, di-2-ethyl hexyl maleate, the methyl, ethyl, butyl, amyl, octyl and lauryl acrylates, vinyl propionate, vinyl butyrate, vinyl laurate and vinyl stearate. The binder may comprise from 20 to 35 per cent of the plastic mass. A third monomer, e.g. vinylchloride, may be present in minor proportion in the binder. Specified fillers and pigments are clay, titanium dioxide, whiting, asbestos sheets and wood flour. The sheets may be produced by milling the plastic mass at 130-280 DEG F.
