768,251. Prizing tools. McWILLIAM, W. R. May 27, 1955 (April 21, 1945], No. 11556/54. Class 61 [Also in Group XXX] A method of erecting a flagstaff consists in mounting the staff 7 on pivot pin 50 located thereon and displacing the staff upwards by exerting a force upon said pin by means of handlever 15 when the staff is nearly erect so that the butt rides over step support 4 adapted to receive and secure the butt by wedging engagement therewith in tabernacle 100. The tabernacle is formed with trunnions 11 which co-operate with corresponding slots in lever 15. The method of erection is as follows:-staff 7 is introduced through the open sides of the tabernacle, its pivots 50 sliding to the bottom of slots 10 formed in said tabernacle. The operator then brings his lever into engagement with the trunnions 11 and levers up the staff by means of its pivots 50 till the butt 6 is high enough to clear step support 4, the lever being lowered to allow the butt to sink into said step support and to thus wedge itself in its vertical position.
