Abstract

767,968. Road-rollers. POTTKAMPER, G. LEHMANN-. April 13, 1954 [April 24, 1953], No. 10898/54. Class 6(1). A vibratory road-roller having an eccentrically-loaded shaft 4 within the roller body 7 is characterized in that the shaft carries eccentric weights 5 housed in enlarged portions of the roller axle 1 which is hollow to accommodate the whole shaft 4, and is mounted on the frame by means of resilient silencing blocks 21. The shaft 4 rotates on bearings 3 and is driven by a diesel engine 23 on the roller frame 22 through a governor 24, clutch 26 and belting 28. The roller axle is driven from the opposite side of the, machine through belting 31, a gearbox 25, and further belting 30 from the engine 23. Jockey pulleys 29, 32 tension the respective belts. The handles 36 are pivoted to the roller frame and are adjustable by a screw-threaded telescopic stay 37. Stands 39 and 40 prevent the roller from tipping over in either direction. The gearbox enables the vibration frequency to be varied.
