Abstract

766,641. Filters. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Aug. 14, 1953, No. 22489/53. Class 40 (8). A waveguide filter comprises resonant cavities 1, 2, each terminated by cylindrical conducting rods 3, 4, 5 which are so shaped and dimensioned that they produce the desired reactance effect and supress undesired modes, thus allowing the cavities to be spaced apart by a distance of #g/4. This distance may be varied slightly to compensate for small phase changes occurring in the cavities. A formula is given (see Fig. 3, not shown) for calculating the spacing and diameter of the rods. Fine tuning of the cavities may be terminated by members which are equivalent to a capacitance termination. The waveguide may be of circular cross-section. Although the cavities are tuned to the same frequency, the lengths of the cavities and the reactance effects of the cavities may differ. Specification 666,294 is referred to.
