Abstract

763,227. Arc-rupturing in switches. CRABTREE & CO., Ltd., J. A., and COLEMAN, E. July 14, 1955 [July 31, 1954], No. 22418/54. Class 38(5) A switch has an arc chamber comprising a rectangular enclosure 4 of insulating material having one wall apertured for the passage of a moving contact arm 8, a guided movable insulating shield 13 on the arm 8 closing the aperture at all times to isolate the arc chamber from the contact actuating mechanism 11. The wall may be provided by spaced plates 5, 5a extending between the sides 4a of the enclosure and apertured at 5c to permit pivotal movement of the arm 8. The shield 13 is slidable between the plates 5, 5a and has an aperture 13a in which the arm 8 closely engages. The sides 4a of the enclosure may be secured in spaced relation by deionizing plates 7 or by a rivet securing the plates of a magnetic blowout (not shown). The enclosure 4 may be housed in a deep rectangular recess in a moulded insulating base 2. Specification 763,228 is referred to.
