Abstract
759,714. Photographic transfer-processing apparatus. CHEMISCHE FABRIEK L. VAN DER GRINTEN N.V. May 7, 1954 [May 8, 1953], No. 13419/54. Class 98 (2). For pressing imagewise-exposed light-sensitive sheet material against receiving support sheet material, the apparatus comprises a pair of horizontally arranged rotatable rollers between which the sheets are fed and pressed together, a reservoir to contain liquid into which at least one of the rollers dips and an endless belt system coacting with a said roller dipping into the reservoir, at least part of which belt system also dips into the reservoir, characterized in that the endless-belt system terminates short of the pressing zone between the rollers to feed one of the sheets through the liquid to the pressing zone, and that means are provided to feed the other sheet along a separate path to the pressing zone in coincidence with the first sheet. In Figs. 1-4 of which only Fig. 4 is shown, both press rollers 1, 2 are driven immersed in liquid 10 and are each provided with an endless-belt system 11, 12; sheet materials 51, 52 are introduced from tables 31, 32 for feeding between their respective rollers and endless belts to the pressing zone 3 between the rollers for image transfer and subsequent separation by bands 57, 58. In Fig. 5 press roller 1 only is immersed and the endless belt 11 is constituted by a number of metal chains laid side by side around toothed rollers 16, 17, 18; the chains hanging clear of roller 1 by their own weight; in operation sheet 51 is conveyed by roller 23 mounted in contact with roller 1, and sheet 52 is projected upwards from table 32 by rollers 66, 67 through slot 61 to meet sheet 51 for pressure and separation as above. Fig. 6 (not shown) is similar to Fig. 5 except that sheet 52 passes directly from one side to the pressing zone, not underneath the liquid container, and mechanism is provided by which sheet 52 may rest on table 32 and be released at the correct time to register with sheet 51. In Fig. 8 (not shown) sheet 52 is in the form of a continuous web running from a feed roller direct to a pressing zone as of Fig. 5 and thence, after removal of the negative sheet 51, to a take-up roller. Any of the forms of the apparatus may be adapted for double image transfer by the use of three sheet materials, the centre one of which may be sensitized and exposed on both sides, thus in Fig. 9 (not shown) rollers 1, 2 are each - partly immersed in liquid contained in separate containers and are provided with belt systems as of Fig. 4, and the third sheet is projected upwards between the two containers to the pressing zone. Other embodiments are described. Specifications 740,165 and 740,166 are referred to.
