Abstract
753,818. Stop motion device. ADAMS, S. J. Oct. 8, 1954 [Oct. 26, 1953], No. 29119/54. Class 120 (2). A stop motion device for use on textile machines and operable automatically to stop the machine when a strand of textile material breaks or becomes excessively slack comprises a bar of insulating material, a pair of electric conductors extending throughout the length of said bar, a plurality of electric switches mounted at spaced points along the bar, each switch comprising a movable contact and another cooperating contact and having conducting parts extending into contact with the pair of conductors respectively when the switch is mounted in position on the bar and the movable contact of each switch being mounted for pivotal movement about an axis transverse to the length of the bar and a drop wire normally supported by the textile material and connected to the movable contact of each switch, the drop wire of each switch extending transverse to the pivotal axis of the movable contact and being tiltable about the pivotal axis to effect engagement of the movable contact with the other contact within the switch. As shown, a number of switches 10 are mounted on a strip 11 of insulating material provided with two strip conductors 12 and 13 which are connected in a stop circuit for the machine. Each switch comprises a shaft 9, having a drop wire 8 secured to its outer end and connected through bearing ring 15 and spring 16 to the contact strip 13, and a strap 14 connected externally of the switch to the other contact strip 12. The shaft 9 is provided with a transverse groove 9b which receives the central portion of strap 14 such that should the drop wire 8 pivot due to breakage or slackness of a roving &c. 6, contact is made between the shaft 9 and the strap 14 thus completing the electric circuit to stop the machine.
