Abstract
751,827. Gin poles for raising derrick masts. MOORE CORPORATION, L. C. July 27, 1954 [Feb. 10, 1954], No. 21975/54. Class 78 (4). The line 21 for erecting a folding gin pole 9, 13 is connected to the link or links 17 by which the legs of the gin pole are unfolded as the gin pole is raised. The line 21 may be connected to extensions of the links 17 beyond their pivots 19 as illustrated or may be connected between the pivots 18, 19 of the links and lead around pulleys suitably disposed on the base 4 for connection to the travelling block 5. As illustrated a link 17 is provided on each side of the gin pole and the line 21 comprises a sling looped over the hook of the travelling block 5. A further sling 25 serves in the usual way to erect a mast 1 on which the gin pole rests when folded. The drilling line 6 passes over a central pulley 23 on the gin pole so that after the sling 25 becomes taut during erection of the gin pole the drilling line 6 snubs the descent of the gin pole under gravity to its erect position.
