Abstract

1371751 Boring earth &c LEE C MOORE CORP 5 April 1973 [11 May 1972] 16395/73 Heading E1F A gin pole for a well drilling derrick comprises a pair of legs 4, means 5 connecting the upper ends of the legs 4 to legs 6, and means 19 at the upper ends of the legs 6 for engaging a mast-raising sling line 16, the upper portions 33, 39 of the legs 6 extending above the connecting means and hinging at 34, 40 to the lower portions 25, 28 of the legs 6 so that the upper portions can be swung down to shorten the legs 6. The mast 3 is raised by hooking the centre of the sling line to the travelling block 13, passing each of the branches of the sling line over sheaves 17, 18, 19 to anchors 20 on the mast, and operating the drawworks 8, the mast be held raised by connecting brackets 26, 27. A locking pin 30 is removed from the legs 6 and the upper portions are swung down. The branches of the sling line are disconnected from the anchors and fixed to the drawworks support 22, the drawworks are operated to raise it and the support on legs 23, and the support is fixed to the mast.
