Abstract

1,145,606. Cranes. RUSTON-BUCYRUS Ltd. 21 March, 1967 [18 April, 1966], No. 13310/67. Heading B8B. [Also in Divisions E1 and F2] An A-frame, e.g. for a crane or excavator, comprises a compression leg 10 and a tension leg 11 which are pivotally mounted at their lower ends on a frame 2, the leg 11 comprising rigid upper and lower links 13, 14 interconnected by a pin and inclined slot connection 21, 19 so that upon release of tension on the leg 11 the links 13, 14 move out of alignment and begin to fold together under gravity. When the links 13, 14 are aligned they are releasably locked in this position by a pin 24. Stops 25 may be provided to ensure that the links 13, 14 do not fold in the wrong direction and further stops or supports may be provided to support the A- frame when it is in its fully lowered position.
