Abstract

749,709. Drag device. BOYD, Ltd., J. & T. July 29, 1954 [Sept. 11, 1953], No. 25134/53. Class 120 (2). A drag arrangement for flyer textile spinning or twisting machines of the type in which a dead spindle supports a bobbin and a carrier tube which is rotatable with the bobbin when the bobbin is driven by pull of the thread includes a centrifugal drag device arranged for frictional engagement with a stationary surface of the dead spindle in such wise that a drag is maintained on the tube when the tube is stationary or is only slowly rotating, but is reduced or removed as the speed of the tube increases. As shown, bobbin 12 is carried on a tube 11 mounted on a dead spindle 10. Attached to the lower end of tube 11 is a hollow boss or ring 14 on the outside periphery of which there are attached, at 16, two blade spring members 15. The free ends of members 15 have attached thereto radial pins 17 entering through holes 18 in the ring 14 and bearing with their inner ends 19 on a part 20 of the spindle 10. When the tube 11 and the ring 14 revolve the pins 17 move away from the spindle under the influence of centrifugal force thus relieving the drag effect on the tube 11.
