747,590. De-aerating paper pulp. ROTAREAED CORPORATION. Dec. 16, 1953 [May 21, 1953], No. 35073/53. Class 96. Paper pulp is de-aerated by spraying it at 26 into a low-pressure tank 11 under the action of a pump 21, the tank 11 being exhausted of air and vapour by a high-pressure steam-jet injector 14 in a pipe 42 with a venturi constriction, the discharge from which being directed downwardly into an enclosure 15 exhausted at 16 by a pump 17, pipes 56, 57 spraying paper pulp drawn from the supply line 22 or white water, as coolant for condensing the vapour and steam, the liquid level being maintained constant with the aid of a sight-glass 45, and a manually-operated valve 47 in a pipe-line connected to spray-pipes 48 in the tank 11, the pressure for spray-formation being due to the steam jet &c. 14. The level in the tank 11 is also maintained constant, a pump 33 supplying pulp therefrom to the flow-box 36 of a papermaking machine. The sprays 26 are deflected by the walls of the tank 11 or by a baffle 27. In a modification, a steam injector is also used in the exhaust 16 from the enclosure 15.
