Abstract

<PICT:0730015/III/1> <PICT:0730015/III/2> A deaerator arrangement for boiler feed water or other purposes comprises a plurality of devices for producing subdivision of water arranged or controlled so that a smaller or larger number of such devices are operative dependent on the rate of flow of water to the deaerator irrespective of the water level therein, in order to afford a satisfactory degree of subdivision at differing rates of flow; the water in the form of spray or fine streams is heated to drive off air and other gases. As shown in Fig. 1, condensate water from the condenser 7 of a steam turbine 8 is pumped through pipe 26 to pressure regulating valve 10 (see Group XXIX) where the pressure is controlled according to the level in condenser well 18. The water then passes to deaerator 1 where it is sprayed through loaded nozzle valves 4; the loading of these valves is arranged so that they come into operation in sequence as the pressure increases. Steam is supplied from one of the stages of the turbine through line 45 and non-return valve 46 (see Group XXIX) into apertured pipes 6; air and gases are returned through pipe 53 to the condenser and deaerated water collects in vessel 2, from which it is removed by boiler feed pump 3. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 4, condensate is supplied through pipe 55 to a series of troughs 531 and is discharged through orifices 56 on to splash plates 57; water overflows through apertures 59 to lower troughs to an extent dependent on the amount of water supplied. Dearrator trays 58 and steam supply pipe 60 are provided.
