Abstract

746,696. Dashpots. NATIONAL PNEUMATIC CO., Inc. Feb. 12, 1954, No. 4203/54. Class 108 (3). The invention relates to fluid pressure apparatus comprising a piston 38 reciprocable in a cylinder 11 connected by fluid flow means with a fluid supply. According to the invention, the fluid flow means comprises a normally-open comparatively unrestricted passage 64, a comparatively restricted passage 62<SP>1</SP>, and cushioning means 40 carried by the piston, and effective when the piston nears the end of its stroke, to close the passage 64 and render operative the passage 62<SP>1</SP>. The passage 62<SP>1</SP> can be adjusted by a valve 62. The cushioning means 40 comprises a sleeve 40, slidable on the piston rod 12 against a spring 37, and engageable with a seat 66 to close the passage 64 near the end of rightwards piston travel. The piston 38 has fibrous lubricating rings 31, lubricant-retaining channels 32, and packing rings 51 and 52. Each cylinder head is sealed by a non-metallic ring 14, and a toroidal spring 16. Clamping nuts 17 can be slackened off to enable the rotational position of the cylinder to be adjusted. The brackets 23 at each end of the cylinder are reversible to enable various combinations of positions of their securing holes to be attained.
