Abstract

1294786 Fluid-operated piston and cylinder devices; cushioning stroke MECMAN A B 19 April 1971 [13 Feb 1970] 21840/71 Heading F1P An hydraulic or pneumatic piston and cylinder has an end wall 1 having a cylindrical cavity 5 within which is mounted a sleeve 12 having teeth 14 which are engaged by a toothed wheel 15 to move the sleeve 12 to any desired position in the cavity 5. This sleeve 12 serves to damp the piston stroke when the seal 10 of a piston projection 6 engages the inside of the sleeve, the fluid then being able to flow to the exhaust 7 through a passage 8 restricted by a needle valve 9. Hence the part of the stroke which is damped can be varied by adjusting the position of sleeve 12 in cavity 5.
