Abstract

736,431. Hydraulic shock absorbers. FICHTEL & SACHS AKT.-GES. Jan. 12, 1953 [June 17, 1952], No. 856/53. Class 108 (3). A hydraulic shock-absorber piston 2 has a unidirectional valve 4, and a supplementary valve in the piston rod 8 comprising an axial bore 9, at least one transverse bore 11, and a valve rod 10 slidable in the bore 9 to open and close communication between the bores 9, 11, the rod 10 being a sealing fit in the bore 9 in the vicinity of the bore 11. The rod 10 is projected by fluid pressure acting via a union 12 on a piston 13 against the action of a spring 14. The rod may, instead, be moved by mechanical, or electromagnetic means. The valve 4 may (as shown) be a plate valve, or may be a stem, or slide, valve.
