Abstract

744,413. Rotary pumps. FORD, R. C. June 17, 1954 [March 18, 1953], No. 7449/53. Class 110(2) A pump of the flexible chamber typehas the inner wall of the chamber formed of a liner 11 and a flexible track member 22 upon which one, two or more rollers 16, carried by a rotor 17. press. The trackmember may be of rubber or the like, leather or strip steel, one end of which is clamped, preferably at the position of the abutment 15, between inlet and outlet ports 5, 6. The thickness of the member 22 gradually increases from the neighbourhood of the inlet port. The body 1 may be produced as two semi-circular halves secured together, and may be mounted on a base 25.by straps 26 and a screw connector 27. The body may be moulded in plastic material or produced by fabrication from tubular or sheet metal. The pumping chamber may be formed of a tube of rubber supported in a groove 13, or as shown in Fig. 2 the liner being held by expansible rings 12 of taper form in cross-section. The rollers may be resiliently mounted, their spindles 21 being supported in blocks 20, which are slidable radially against the pressure of springs 19. Details of these features are described in Specification 744,414. Shaft bearings 8 may be placed at a distance from the pump body 1 to prevent any heat transfer from the bearings.
