Abstract

739,529. Tyre valves. WINGFOOT CORPORATION. March 29, 1954 [Nov. 23, 1953], No. 9070/54. Class 135. An adapter for airtightly connecting a tyre valve to a rim receiving a tubeless tyre wherein the adapter may be inserted from outside the rim, includes a tubular stem 4, having an enlarged end 6 passing through an opening 3 in the rim 2. The stem mounts a rubber sleeve 12 and a washer 13 and is screw-threaded to engage a nut 11 which on tightening-up compresses the sleeve between the end 6 and washer 13 and expands it outwardly inside the rim to seal the opening 3. The end 8 of the stem is screw-threaded internally and externally to receive the usual check valve and a dust cap respectively. In a modification shown in Fig. 4, the washer 13 is made smaller than the opening 3, the stem and sleeve then being positioned so that when the nut 11 is tightened the sleeve expands outwardly both outside and inside the rim 2.
