Abstract
860,269. Valves. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. June 5, 1957 [June 28, 1956; Jan. 31, 1957], No. 28067/60. Divided out of 860,268. Class 135. An elastomeric inflation valve for expansible enclosure, e.g. a tyre, comprises a first tubular body part 35 with a flange 36 and a second body part 40 with a flange 41 and a conical boss 42, the two flanges having the enclosure wall interposed therebetween and the boss 42 accommodating a projection 43 of the body part 40. The boss incorporates a ring of orifices 44, the inner ends of which are normally sealed from the boss in body part 35 by a bead urged against the adjacent end of the projection 43 due to prestressing of the boss 42. Upon removing a ribbed plug 39 from the part 35 and supplying pressure air to the latter, the boss 42 is distended and uncovers the ends of the orifices 44, enabling the air to pass into the enclosure. When the supply of air ceases the boss returns to the position shown due to its elasticity and the pressure in the enclosure. A tube 47, Fig. 4, may be provided for insertion into the part 35 to unseat the boss, the outer end of the tube being connected either to a source of pressure, e.g. a pump or a pressure gauge; the tube may also be used to deflate the enclosure. In another embodiment a two-part valve body 59, 60, Fig. 5, of metal or plastic holds closure member 55 in position through a bead 61; the closure member may be of rubber or plastic and is prestressed. A depression at the inner end of the supply passage 64 provides a seat for a central semi-spherical protrusion 56 of the closure member between which and the bead 61 are two smaller sealing protrusions 57, 58 and orifices 67 ; the member 55 may incorporate grooves 70 in the surface which cooperate with the body part 60. Upon supplying pressure air to the passage 64, the protrusions 56, 57, 58 lift in sequence to admit air to the enclosure through the orifices 67. The enclosure cannot be deflated since a tube introduced into the passage 64 will only lift the central protrusion.
