Abstract
801,458. Valves. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. July 18, 1955 [Aug. 17, 1954], No. 23853/54. Addition to 713,032. Class 135. The inflating valve insert 7 described in the parent Specification is modified by providing an annular valve seating surface recessed within the insert instead of at one end thereof. Thus one end of the valve member 16 which is cylindrical and of rubber or rubber-like material co-operates with a part conical seating surface formed between the passage 11 in the insert and a coaxial recess 12 of larger diameter at one end thereof. The valve member 16 moves with appreciable clearance in this recess, and is impaled coaxially on a pin 14. A sealing member 20 of rubbery material is secured within a dust cap 19 screwed on to the threaded part 8 of the insert. The latter is secured against a shoulder 4 inside the valve stem 1 by a threaded collar 17 as in the parent Specification, a resilient seal 10 being fitted on the insert. According to the Provisional Specification, an abutment is provided on the valve pin to prevent the valve member from being blown off. Such abutment may comprise a flattened portion of the pin itself, a washer swaged on to the pin, a headed-up part of the pin, or a nut engaging a rolled thread on the pin.
