Abstract

777,142. Cathode materials. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Nov. 16, 1954 [Nov. 18, 1953], No. 33173/54. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(1). A porous or dispenser cathode is provided with a supply of alkaline-earth material comprising a compound of barium oxide with an oxide of aluminium, beryllium, or silicon, the porous refractory metal consisting of an alloy of two of the following, molybdenum, tungsten, tantalum, niobium, hafnium, and zirconium. The cathode may be of the type having the emissive material in a supply chamber closed by a porous wall, and Table I gives a list of various emissive materials with corresponding suitable alloys, and their proportional constituents. Table II is a similar table for cathodes of the type in which a porous refractory mass is impregnated with the emissive material, or in which the refractory metal is mixed with the emissive material in powder form, and then pressed and sintered. Further tables show experimental results of life tests. Specifications 734,209 and 734,311 are referred to.
