Abstract

737,771. Metal-strip feeds. TODD, C. Sept. 22, 1953, No. 26125/53. Class 83 (4). A feed of the reciprocating gripper type operates the machine being fed after a predetermined number of feed strokes. The reciprocating gripper is supplied with strip 15 by a power reel controlled by a switch operated by a pulley hanging in a loop of the strip 15. The strip passes through straightening rolls 61 and rollers 62 which prevent reverse movement and control a switch to stop the feed driving motor when the strip runs out. The gripper block 36 is reciprocated along water-cooled slides 37 by links 40 oscillated by an adjustable crank 49 on the motor shaft, which can be turned by hand for. setting. The gripping member 42 is pivoted to the block 36 so that it slides freely under the strip during rearward movement. ' A cam 53 on the motor shaft drives a pump 52 to provide forced lubrication of the moving parts of the feed. For each reciprocation of the feed, a cam 23 on the motor shaft actuates a switch 25 connected to a counter which after a predetermined number of feed strokes operates the machine during the rearward stroke of the gripper block. Alternatively, the feed motor may be stopped when the machine operates.
