Abstract
964,522. Heading machines. TEXTRON INDUSTRIES Inc. April 18, 1961 [April 18, 1960], No. 13886/61. Heading B3H. A heading machine has its gate 26 actuated by a pair of pitmans 30 connected to driving means 32, 36, 37 on the side of the die block 11 opposite the gate whereby the pitmans are in tension during the heading stroke. Wire stock 15 is fed by intermittently rotating rollers 15 through a guide 55 and die 14 against an adjustable stop 20. Cutting elements 18, 19, Fig. 4 (not shown), sever a blank from the stock and transfer it laterally to a die 12 into which it is pushed by a spring-loaded pin 53 in a heading punch 23 mounted on the gate 26. The latter reciprocates in guides 24, 25 and its pitmans 30 are each connected at 31 to a lever 32 mounted on a fixed pivot 34 and also connected at 35 through link 36 to a crank-pin 37. Each crankpin is mounted on a disc 38 of a crank-shaft 39 driven through gearing 41, 42. The headed blank is ejected from the die 12 by a pin 46 actuated through a lever 48 by a cam 51 on the crank-shaft. The pin 53 also serves to eject blanks from the punch.
