Abstract
731,782. Packaging. AMERICAN SAFETY RAZOR CORPORATION. Oct. 16, 1953 [April 20, 1953; July 24, 1953], No. 28598/53. Class 94 (1). A process of packaging an article between two sheets separable along a line of separation parallel to a dimension of the sheets comprises coating at least one of the two sheets with an adhesive substance in a direction perpendicular to the line of separation and preferably in a direction parallel to the grain of the sheets. As shown a surgeon's knife-blade 2 is enclosed within two sheets of metal foil 10, 12 which may be formed from a single sheet folded at 18, in such a manner that a tab 16 of one sheet is left exposed at one end. The foil is coated with an adhesive wiped in a direction parallel to the long edges 36 and preferably the grain of the foil runs in this direction also. The adhesive gives a loose bond over the whole of the coated surface and is further heat-sealed over the area 20, 21, 22 and 34. The sealed areas 34 act as a partial stop when opening the wrapper, enabling the exposed portion of the blade to be fitted to a handle without touching the blade with the fingers.
