Abstract
The invention comprises dyes of the formula <FORM:0726346/IV (c)/1> where X is an alkyl or cycloalkyl group of 4-8 carbon atoms, and also complex chromium compounds thereof containing at least one chromium atom in complex linkage with two molecules of the dyestuff. They are made by diazotizing the corresponding 6-nitro-4-alkyl or cycloalkyl - 2 - amino - 1 - hydroxybenzenes (see Group IV (b)) and coupling with 1.3.6-naphtholdisulphamide. In an example, 6-nitro-4-tert.-amyl - 2 - amino - 1 - hydroxybenzene, or the corresponding 4-tert.-butyl, 4-cyclohexyl, or 4-diisobutyl body is diazotized and coupled with 1.3.6-naphthol-disulphamide. The product is used to dye wool in association with sodium monochromate or is chromed with ammonium disalicylato chromate solution, or with trivalent chromium salts in organic solution. The products are advantageously mixed for dyeing purposes with sodium carbonate and a dispersing agent. The chromed dyes may be used to dye silk, casein fibres, nylon and polyurethane fibres.ALSO:6 - Nitro - 2 - aminophenols containing in 4-position one of the following radicals: tert.-amyl, tert.-butyl, cyclohexyl, and di-isobutyl, are obtained by dinitration of the alkylphenols, followed by partial reduction with alkali sulphide.
