Two fans 5 arranged symmetrically of a twostroke cylinder C at the sides thereof deliver via similarly symmetrical passages 3 scavenging and charging air which is carburetted, constantly or during charging only, by fuel nozzles 13 of injectors or of carburetters 15. The fans may be gear-driven from the crankshaft as shown, or co-axial therewith. The passages 3 are angled away from an exhaust passage 17, which may be single or branched.
