Abstract

713,051. Inlet manifolds. GUTBROD MOTORENBAU. June 27 1952 [Aug. 2, 1951], No. 16236/52. Class 7(2) In a multi-cylinder twostroke engine, preferably with reverse scavenging, wherein the scavenging air is conducted to each cylinder 1 from a ring duct 4, entirely surrounding the engine block, through inlet ports 2a, 2b. communicating with opposite sides of the duct, the ports enter the cylinders asymmetrically of the plane 7 joining the cylinder axes. The duct 4 is connected to one or more scavenging air compressors 3 located at one end, preferably the front end of the engine. The duct 4, which is .at the same level as, or a little lower than the inlet ports, is formed integral with the cylinder block of a water-cooled engine but is made detachable when applied to air-cooled engines. The bisectrix 8 of the angle between the radial centre lines of the two ports of each cylinder passes to one side of the adjacent cylinder.
