Abstract

724,475. Screw conveyers. WALLACE & TIERNAN, Inc. April 28, 1953 [April 29, 1952] No. 11731/53. Class 78 (1). Material is discharged from a container by a screw having a rotary and a reciprocating motion which is driven positively both towards and away from the discharge opening and is rotated simultaneously so that it threads itself into the material as it moves away from the discharge opening and pushes the material when the movement is reversed. In order to provide a continuous discharge, the screw 16 has sections 18, 19 of opposite hand and the hopper 10 has outlets 14, 15. The screw is connected to a driving shaft 20 which is slidably mounted in a stationary member 28 and is driven through gears 30, 31 by a shaft 32. A cylindrical cam 24 mounted on the shaft 20 has a cam track 25 which is engaged by a pin 26 rotatably mounted in the part 28.
