Abstract

<PICT:0746187/III/1> <PICT:0746187/III/2> <PICT:0746187/III/3> A machine for applying coating material to wall surfaces, pipe surfaces and the like includes means for pivotally mounting an open pivoted hopper (1) on an upright frame (2), the frame having means for raising and lowering the hopper therein, the hopper having a multiple number of impellers (31) rotatably and separately mounted in its side at the front end thereof, means for supplying the coating material to the impellers and power means for revolving the impellers to discharge the material on to the surface to be coated. Loading wells (41) may be mounted beneath the impellers to bring the coating material into contact with the impellers and a cut-off plate (43) may be attached to each loading well and adjustably associated with each impeller to change the direction of a stream of material projected therewith. The means for supplying the coating material to the impellers may be a vertical pusher plate (56a) mounted in the hopper and movable towards the impellers by an extension member (58) and nut connection (59) with a horizontal motor driven screw (60) located beneath the hopper. A bridge breaker mechanism (44) may be oscillatably mounted inside the hopper adjacent the impellers to prevent the coating material caking in and around the impellers and loading wells; the bridge breaker mechanism may consist of a plurality of vertical blads (56) depending from a cross member (55) oscillatable laterally of the hopper by a motor driven cam arrangement which includes a heart-shaped cam (45) mounted on a shaft (46) and contained in a cam housing (54). The machine, as illustrated, projects three streams of material but the upper loading wells, including the cut-off plates, and the upper impellers and driving gear associated therewith may be removed and the front plate (54a) replaced by a larger one so that two or one stream only may be thrown.
