Abstract

720,835. Hinged valves. WALDENMAIER, H. W., [trading as ERHARD, J., [Firm of]]. March 23, 1953 [March 22, 1952], No. 7861/53. Class 135. The closure disc of a butterfly valve has an elastic mounting whereby, in the closed position, it is urged axially by upstream pressure to form a fluid-tight seal with its seating. The disc 2, which has a part-spherical edge 2a coacting, with slight clearance, with a correspondinglyshaped seat ring 3, is located by four supports 4 fixed in diametrically opposite pairs on each side of the disc and bearing in arcuate grooves 5 disposed on either side of the seat ring 3. By this arrangement a through spindle is not required and the edge 2a of the closure disc and the seat ring 3 are therefore uninterrupted. The supports 4 are attached to the closure disc 2 by bolts 12, Fig. 4, on which rubber or spring cushions 13 are mounted allowing the disc 2 to be urged to the right by fluid pressure to cause the rim of the disc to be pressed against the seat ring. Keys 14 transmit to the closure disc the turning moment which is applied to the supports 4 through worm gearing 8, 9.
